This delicately carved example is somewhat smaller than the average Balinese kris. The handle is carved of ebony wood in the form of a raksasa demon with long curly tresses that is based on the dwarpala guardian statues flanking the entries of Hindu and Buddhist temples. The raksasa is naked except for elaborate gold jewelry which has been created by plaques of pure gold with floral motifs. He reaches back with his right arm to grab at the gold kris bound to his back. The carving sits in a heavy gold ring with large stones and granulation work. A smaller gold ring is seen below. The wrangka is of pelet wood with a speckled pattern. A veneer of the same wood is seen on one side of the lower sheath along with more gold repoussé plaques. The opposite side is clad in silver and gold with foliage, blossoms and an eternal knot.
The blade has nine curves and also decorated with gold including two elephants on the upper edge. It has a fine damascene pattern.
