Cirebon Style
The vigorous depiction of a squatting long nosed raksasa demon with a three pronged crown, spiral eyes and long earrings is often attributed to the royal courts of Cirebon, a major port on the border between west and central Java. A large oval silver plate also depicting a fanged raksasa mask, surrounded by an elaborate lotus scroll is attached to the tapered wooden wrangka. The sheath is also clad in silver worked with an elaborate pattern depicting animals, stylized Garuda wings and flowers and tendrils. The blade has 11 curves and a damascene pattern.
